Alfredo D. Gutiérrez has over 30 years of financial experience in emerging markets, principally in Latin America, where he has worked in all the major countries.
He was Founding and Managing Partner of North Bay Equity Partners, a boutique firm that focused exclusively on venture capital and private equity transactions in the region. Prior to the founding of North Bay Equity Partners, he was President of J.P. Morgan Brazil and Head of Investment Banking for the Southern Region of Latin America, where he consolidated J.P. Morgan’s position as the leading investment bank in the area.
Earlier in his J.P. Morgan career Mr. Gutiérrez held a number of different positions such as Head of Investment Banking for Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, Head of the Emerging Markets Sovereign Capital Markets Group, and Head of the Bank Advisory Technical Group. He began his career with the World Bank in Washington D.C. where he held a variety of assignments.
Mr. Gutiérrez earned his BA in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh and completed a PhD in International Economics and Finance at the University of Michigan. He is a member of the Advisory Board of Visitors of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. He also served as a member of the Board of Governors and of the Dean’s Advisory Board of the University of Michigan’s Rackham School of Graduate Studies. He has lectured on Latin American financial issues at Princeton University, John Hopkins University, and at the National War College of the U.S. Armed Forces.
